SENSEI LAURIAN LAPADATU Natives of Romania (Transylvania), Luarian Lapadatu have over 20 combined years experience in the martial arts. Laurian started his martial arts career in 1986 in his hometown Medias in the only existing Dojo by that time (practice karate was illegal in Romania before 1990). Yet during this time, the country suffered under the communist dictatorship of Ceausescu. The martial arts, yoga, bridge playing and hang gliding were “strongly discouraged” by the government. These activities were suspected of developing self-reliance, mental strength, strategic thinking and possible escape from the country. Constantly under surveillance and no longer allowed to practice in any public building, the karate club continued to practice under the guise of “Judo Club”. In October 1989 Laurian become Black Belt in Karate Shotokan. In the same year 1989, in December, the communist government was overthrown and in January 1990, Romania formed the Federation of Martial Arts, the first legal organization including all existing styles of the martial arts. Laurian opened with his first karate Shotokan – Fudokan club in Medias called “Katana”.In a short time, attendance peaked at over 150 students. In 2000 Laurian was member of three Shotokan Federations (WKF, JKA and SKDUN) and also member of Kyokunshikai Karate Union. Laurian was traveled and trained with top masters in Romania, Hungary, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan, Holland and Greece. In January 2001 he moved in Canada. He become member of Canadian Martial Arts Association in 2002, and Karate B.C. member in 2006. In 2005 Laurian become Director SKDUN in North America and Chief Instructor SKDUN in Canada. Laurian is now 5 Dan Black Belt Karate Shotokan, 4 Dan Degree Black Belt Mixed Martial Arts, 2 Dan Degree Black Belt Kyokushinkay, Krav Maga Certified Instructor , Brown Belt Judo and Blue Belt Jiu Jitsu.
