Started training = 1972

Present rank = GODAN (5th Dan)

 1972  -     Started training with Senseis Les Clarke and Dave Herrity, one of the first clubs in the U.K.   (very hard training in those days).

 Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB)

 1976  -     Attained the rank of SHODAN (1st Dan Black Belt),  graded by a panel of Japanese senior instructors from the Japan Karate Association (J.K.A.) Senseis Enoeda, Kase, Shirai, Tanaka, Kawasoe and Tomita on a J.K.A. course.

 1976  -    Qualified as a national Judge for competition.

 1978  -    Qualified as a national Referee. 

1980  -   Attained the rank of NIDAN (2nd Dan Black Belt) on a J.K.A. course with instructors Sensei Enoeda, Kase, Shirai, Osaka, Ochi and Ohta.

 1983  -   Attained the rank of SANDAN (3rd Dan Black Belt) again on a J.K.A. course.  On this course I also trained with Sensei Nakayama, the senior J.K.A. instructor in the world.  Sensei Nakayama died soon afterwards.

 1992 Left the KUGB joined the British Shotokan Karate Union. (now FBSKU Int)

 1994  -   Attained the rank of YONDAN (4th Dan Black Belt) under Sensei Kenneth Funakoshi, a descendant of the founder of the Shotokan style, Gichin Funakoshi.  I was one of the few European Karate-Ka to be graded by Funakoshi sensei at that time,

 2001  -   Attained the rank of GODAN (5th Dan Black Belt) Through the English Karate Governing Body (E.K.G.B.) and the Federation of British Shotokan Karate Union International (FBSKUI).

 I am the chief instructor to three dojo (club) in Plymouth, England.

And second senior instructor of the Federation of British Shotokan Karate Union International based in the U.K.

 

Offices held :

 Chairman of the Federation of British Shotokan Karate Unions International (F.B.S.K.U.).   1994 – Nov 2004

 Vice Chairman of the Shotokan Karate Kyogi of United Nations (S.K.K.U.N.) a world wide organisation. 1994 – 1999.

 Founder member of the Shotokan Karate – Do of United Nations (SKDUN).

 Chief referee and examiner for the above organisations.

 Member of the Executive and Technical committees for the above organisations

 Council member of the English Karate Governing Body (E.K.G.B.).1992 - 2005

 Executive member of Plymouth Advisory Sports Council (P.A.S.C.).

 Management member of the Sports Forum 2004 –

 In my karate career, I have been trained by the greater majority of senior Japanese instructors,  and I personally have trained 53 students to the rank of black belt, 1st and 2nd Dan and 4 students to 3rd Dan locally, several of these students have competed successfully at international level.  I have taught/teach karate in many countries such as  Germany, Romania, Venezuella, Middle East (mainly Egypt), Ireland and in the

U.S.A., California, New York, Bahamas, Hawaii.
