Sensei Knobel visits Romania

On invitation of sensei Aurel Patru, president of the SKDUN en vice president of the Romania martial Arts Federation, sensei Jan Knobel paid an official visit to Romania from Mai 24 until Mai 29.

After a short flight he arrived in Bucharest and faced a temperature of 45 C (Holland 14 C). The ride to the Hotel took about 2 hrs. due to strikes and traffic jam. Comparing to 10 yrs ago this was a great progress in the wrong direction.

Sensei Patru had made a schedule which was discussed. His, astonishing, wish was explicit JKA training. After explaining him that in the Netherlands many teachers were going to leave the traditional JKA and instead going their own way, he understood the surprise. Romania has decided, he explained, to go the JKA way, as many other countries are doing. Netherlands walking behind again ?

During the stay in Romania sensei Knobel taught the national team the JKA way and explained that the basic of success was the old JKA spirit. The reaction of the team members was enthusiastic and this was the base for friendship and mutual respect. Visiting Bucharest with some members, fishing and having a lot of fun and laughs was the result.

Even the visit to Focsani, was pure fun and pleasure. Training was hard, but relaxing in the mountains and enjoying the company of the students and teachers made everybody forget the hard work and training.

In the beginning sensei Knobel had a bit of reserve going to Romania. Knowing the superb and excellent team and not knowing what to expect. The training, the fun and the opines of the Romanian students made him defiantly change his opinion.

He now thinks them to be open and friendly and above all, very, very crazy as top karatekas should be.

He wishes to express his thanks and gratitude to sensei Patru and his students for this unforgettable opportunity.
